ESMY'S BOOK BLOG: OCT. 14, WEEK 7

It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.

My book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The characters in my book is Amir, Soraya(Amirs' wife), Baba and Hassan. Amir is around 22 years old so is his wife. I don't know how old Baba or Hassan are but I'm pretty sure that Hassan is the same age as Amir.

The setting is Fremont, California. Baba and Amir lived in an apartment together.

pg 125 "Baba loved the idea of America....I remember the two of us walking through Lake Elizabeth Park in Fremont, a few streets down from our apartment..."

The plot of the story right now is that Amir got married( I know shocked me too). He got married to this lady from Kabul (same age as him) named Soraya.

I think the Universal Theme is either Message about Life. I think that it's a Message about Life b/c it shows how we can over come some obstacles that we have in life.

  1. Esmy,

Why do you think Hassan is the same age as Amir? What did you read to suggest that? Where are they from originally - isn't that a character analysis.

If someone got married, wouldn't the setting include that? Be specific. I love your quote to show setting though! There is more to plot than one situation. What lead up to the wedding? Do you have a conflict?

I like you Universal Theme Idea. Now, how can you prove tht? What obstacles - I haven't read this book, you are leaving me hanging to much.

4 PP- You showed a limited understanding of the assignment and expectations as well as some awareness of your choices in your work. The assignment showed some imagination but the details and development need work.

  4. Emsy,
I really liked how you showed evidence to your setting and I like the universal theme. My learning question to you is: Why did you say that the plot was is how Amir got married? What evidence do you have?(like in a wedding there are plans, did that give you an idea?
