Blog Question Week 4

After analyzing you main character in s close manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-Chart or in 3 paragraphs compare and contrast these 2 characters. Determine which one you identify the most to.

I am still reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Well I'm almost done with it though. It's an amazing book that everyone should read.

The book that we are reading for our class read is Monster High by Lisi Harrison. Well I like this book because I can relate to her.

Frankie

Okay, people might say that Frankie is a monster which is somewhat true. She is mostly power charged by two bolts on the side of her neck. She is green, well not like grass green but more like mint green. She is only 15 days old but her dad downloaded 15 years of knowledge into her. She is pretty smart even though shes only 15 days old. She's pretty spoiled due to the fact that she is rich. She basically gets what she wants. The only family she has is her mom and dad. She has to disguise herself so the world can't recognize that she's a monster. They all have to cover up as in: pant, turtle necks, scarves, and high socks. For the face and hands they have to wear this make-up that is described as a "cookie dough" color. Well on the "first" day of her school year, Frankie did not want to cover up. She said that "being green" was in so she didn't want to hide who she really was. Well we learned that when getting ready for something, Frankie makes one huge mess. Shes also a perfectionist, everything has to match according to her "fashion people" a.k.a. fashion magazines. Well that's all the information I have on Frankie.

Mariam
She is quite different from Frankie. She is 33 years old. She is from Afghanistan. The book is mostly based on the past so they don't have much technology. The family that she has is her husband, a co-wife, nephew, niece, and a doctor. She has a triangular, narrow face. She's not really that pretty but shes not ugly either. She wears burqas, well she's obligated to. She doesn't have much education but shes not dumb either. Shes thin right now (they're starving). Well thats all I have of Mariam.

I can relate more to Frankie because she is a female teenager. She lives in the modern time, so that means i can relate to the fashion, technology, and trends. She is also around my age so we have kind of the same education. That is how I relate to Frankie.

Week 3 Book Blog April 18-22

In your response this week, think about and discuss:

  • Your main charcters personality

  • How they act and behave

  • what they look like

  • how old they are

  • what sort of eduacation do you think they have

  • who their friends and family are

  • what their financial (money) situation is

  • what their job is (if they have one

Okay so my book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is spectacular. Khaled Hosseini does a wonderful job in describing every detail. Right now Mariam is going through a rough time. She is kind of strange though. Mariam is described as a not really pretty woman. “ ...the archless, unshapely eyebrows, the flat hair, the eyes, mirthless green and set so closely together....Her skin was coarse and had a dull, spotty appearance. She thought her brow too wide, the chin too narrow, the lips too thin. The overall impression was of a long face, triangular face, a bit houndlike.” I found this information on page 53. She mostly wore hiyabs with trousers, and a nice shirt. I got that because she usually talks about wearing her trousers with a dress or a shirt. But that was mostly before she forcefully got married. Her husband Rasheed makes her wear a burqa. He says its better so men won't look at her features and that its more traditional. “He fished a sky blue burqa from the bag. The yards of pleated cloth spilled over his knees when he lifted it. He rolled up the burqa, looked at Mariam. '...who bring their wives to my shop. The women come uncovered, they talk to me directly, look me in the eye without shame. They wear makeup and skirts that show their knees. Sometimes they even put their feet in fromt of me, the women do, for measurements, and their husbands stand there and watch. They allow it. They think nothing of a stranger touching their wives' bare feet! They think they're being modern men..." Well as you can see Rasheed is more traditional. O yea I got this from page 70. Oh shes 33 now.

Her family is mostly Rasheed (her husband well I mentioned that already), her dad Jalil, her mother (Nana but she past away) , and the newest member to the family ( I think your excepting a baby) but no its a co-wife Laila. Well Laila had a baby so yea another new member.

Mariam isn't able to get pregnant. She's had around 7 miscarriages. Her first miscarriage I would say was probably the worst because she thought she was going to be a mother and it just impacted on her on losing her beloved child. " In the four years since the day at the bathhouse, there had been six more cycles of hoped raised then dashed, each loss, each collapse, each trip to the doctor more crushing for Mariam than the last." I got this on page 99. I would say that Mariam has mixed emotions. Well for one I think that she is sort of jealous that Rasheed married another woman. I can really tell because Laila and Mariam had a giant argument. "....'And is it possible you hid it somewhere, to aggravate me.' 'You're a sad, miserable woman,' Laila said...'And you're a whore. A whore and a dozd. A theiving whore, that's what you are!..." Okay so that argument didn't really mean much but it shows that Mariam can protect herself. Well this one kind of shows that she is a little jealous, "'Well, I wouldn't have,' Mariam snapped. ' I wouldn't have fed you and washed you if I'd known you were going to turn around and steal my husband.'" Well she does feel like she stole her husband and all but still I would be really pissed off if my husband would have done that to me (I would have slapped both of them). I would say that Mariam is unappreciated. Her husband kind of treats her like crap and everything. He calls her a Hariam (or a bastard). "...Mariam, have you told her that your a harami?" Pg 222. Well ever since he married Laila, his attention has been towards her, his beatiful little flower.

She doesn't have much eduacation as Laila has. A tutor would go and teach her things at her house up until around she was 9ish. Well she doesn't have a job except for clean and feed her stupid husband. Their financial issue I would say was in the middle. They aren't rich but not poor either. Well Mariams' father is really rich but he's worthless to her. Well that's it for this week, see you next week ;).

Week 2 April 8, 2011

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel. Hello!! Well I'm still reading and enjoying A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Khaleds' books are incredible! Okay so making a different title for this book is pretty tough. I love the title as it is but I still need to make two alternative titles. The 1st one that I came up with is The life struggles as a women in Afghnaistan. I like this one but not as much as I like the original. Okay, so my next alternative title is Life has to go on with or without disappointments. Again, I still like the original title. Okay so I decided to use my first title, The life struggles as a women in Afghanistan. The catch phrase that I have for the movie poster is “Does life get tougher as it goes by”. Well I have been thinking of the movie poster and it’s kind of hard. I want the font to be like red paint that has the title written on it. Some paint should be dropping down. The background should be of the city of Kabul in Afghanistan. Some fog (not a lot) should be there. In the distance there should be seven people walking. The time of day is morning, you could see the sun rising from behind the mountains. Light should be hitting the top of the mountains and the top of some roofs. You could only see the shadows of the seven people, four of those people are women and the other three are men. The title should be on top of the sun. This is how I imagine the poster.

Esmy's Book Blog Week 1

Week 1 - March 17 - 18, 2011

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

Hello, I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It was published by The Penguin Group in 2007. The genre is realistic fiction, I know this because it seems like it might happen in life. I know this because the religion in the middle east are different from ours. When they get married, the woman could be 10 years old and the man could be around 40. I found this information in the back of the title page.

The cover look like a woman staring off to a city in Afghanistan called Kabul. She is looking towards the mountains as if she were thinking. The colors of the book is like a shade of redish orangish at the mountains and seems like its turning bluer and bluer. There are a lot of clouds around the city. The woman is standing on what seems to be a hill and she is wearing a brown shawl and hiyab. You can't see her face you could only see her back. The time of day seems to be around the morning. I would soo pick up this book based upon its cover mostly because it says 'A novel by the author of The Kite Runner' which is a fantastic book.

The main characters that I've met so far is Mariam and Nana. I met both of them on page 1. I met them just straight on from the book. Mariam seems to be shy and innocent. Nana seems like she wants revenge on someone and she isn't afraid to say what she is thinking. I met Jalil ( Mariams' dad) on page 4. I honestly don't like him at all (you'll have to read the book to see what I mean). He seems like a backstabber and selfish. I met Rasheed ( Mariams husband) on page 46. He is an awkward man per say.
