Esmy's Book Blog Week 4 Sept 23,2010

9.22.10 - 9.24.10 Week 5

In your book, what are some of the ways that your character expresses themselves through their emotions? How do they show love? Anger? Hate? Why is this important to you as a reader?

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

My character, Amir is very mores emotions. From the beginning of the book he has changed completely. His emotions aren't as innocent as they used to be. Now he isn't trying to solve the problem but avoid it. Like: "The head lights came on...I'd run outside, my bare feet splashing rainwater. I'd chase the car, screaming for it to stop. I'd pull Hassan out of the backseat and tell him I was sorry, so sorry...We'd hug in the down pour...I was sorry, but I didn't cry and I didn't chase the car..." (pg 109). When Amir is sad, he'd usually try to avoid it or talk to Hassan about it. When he's mad he usually stays in his room, or he just be mean to Hassan and Ali. When he's happy he acts like a kid that he is, not a a stubborn little rich boy.

Esmy's Book Blog: Week 4

9.13.10 - 9.17.10: Week 4

It is important to use our observations/knowledge of the world around us to understand and make meaning out of what we read. Thinking about your experience with the writing excursion, how much importance does your author place on how two characters in your book dress/look? How do you know this?

In The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini doesn't really describe what the characters are wearing. But he does do a good job in showing the reaction of the characters.

When my character Amir gets a problem he usually tries to ignore it. He'll spend most of his day in his bedroom, or he reads books to try to get things off his mind. But when he gets mad or impatient he usually gets it out on other people such as Hassan or Hassans' father. When he is happy is a completley other person.
Hassan is different from Amir. The author makes him sound more responsible. When Hassan has a problem he usually tries to solve it. In the book they've never showed that he's gotten mad. When he is happy he shows it by singing, praying, and other things.

Week 2 of Esmy's Book Blog

9-3-10 Book BlogMy character Amir expresses himself by writing. He has written some short stories and has read a lot of books. And when I think of myself I notice that I sometimes get my journal and I just write little poems of what I am feeling. But what I have really realized is that I mostly express by listening to music. With every mood I have I just HAVE to listen to that mood song. And I also tend to reorganize my room when I get mad. I also read books due to my mood.

Esmy's Book Blog: Week 3

9.7.10 - 9.10.10: Week 3

As readers, we need to be able to look at what is happening in the world around us so that we can make connections to what we are reading. Thinking about the world you live in, what connections can you make to your book.

In my book The Kite Runner, Amir wins the kite tournament. He tried SO hard to win so his father could pay more attention to him. But when Amir cuts the last kite in the sky Hassan goes running for it. Hassan is one of the greatest kite runner, but when he catches the kite he runs into trouble with the neighborhood bully Assef. Assef, Kamal, and Wali corner him into an alley wall. He says that he'll let him go unharmed as long as he gave him the blue kite. Over course as a loyal friend to Amir, Hassan says no. Hassan reaches down to get a rock. As Assef was going to swing at Hassan, Hassan threw the rock and hit Assef right on the forehead. But you guys have to read it to find out.

So the connection that I can make is that everyday some gets abused (sexually ,mentally, physically, and emotionaly). Many people might see it happen but they might not do mothing about it. Like Amir saw Hassan getting physically, mentally, emotionlly, and sexually and he didn't do nothing about it. If Hassan were to see that he'd go up and stand up for Amir. If anyone else were to see that happening and didn't do anything about it they might have gotten a guilty conshes. And that is what Amir has.
