Esmy's Book Blog: Week 4

9.13.10 - 9.17.10: Week 4

It is important to use our observations/knowledge of the world around us to understand and make meaning out of what we read. Thinking about your experience with the writing excursion, how much importance does your author place on how two characters in your book dress/look? How do you know this?

In The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini doesn't really describe what the characters are wearing. But he does do a good job in showing the reaction of the characters.

When my character Amir gets a problem he usually tries to ignore it. He'll spend most of his day in his bedroom, or he reads books to try to get things off his mind. But when he gets mad or impatient he usually gets it out on other people such as Hassan or Hassans' father. When he is happy is a completley other person.
Hassan is different from Amir. The author makes him sound more responsible. When Hassan has a problem he usually tries to solve it. In the book they've never showed that he's gotten mad. When he is happy he shows it by singing, praying, and other things.

  1. Esme, I love the examples from your book. They are very clear. How can you show a quote with page number next time? Now, why do you think your author stressed actions instead of what characters look like to show how they express themselves? How can you make sure you answer all parts of a question?

Please don't use the bold font you used for examples, it is hard to read.

5-6 PP You showed a sufficient amount of understanding of the assignment and expectations and were aware of the choices that you made in your work. The assignment reflected imagination and worldly awareness as well as some literary terms and features with intention and understanding.
